Moscow showcased its tourist potential at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) at the session tourism in Russia: Focus on People, Sustainability, and Investment Attractiveness. The event was held on June 15.

At the occasion, considerable emphasis was placed on efforts to increase tourist traffic from friendly nations. The participants also spoke about the specifics of hosting international visitors in Moscow.

Since March of this year, Indian travellers have been able to get tourist visas to Russia for up to six months on the basis of a hotel or other kind of lodging reservation. Furthermore, an electronic visa for entrance into the Russian Federation is set to be deployed in mid-July, resulting in a rise in tourist traffic from India.

“India is one of Moscow’s significant partners in hospitality, and we are interested in developing our relations. We see great interest from Indian tourists in the capital – according to last year’s results, India was among the leading countries in terms of the number of tourists from non-CIS countries visiting the capital. At the same time, business visits are one of the most popular travel goals for Indian visitors”, noted Evgeniy Kozlov, first deputy chief of staff of the Moscow Mayor and Government, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of Moscow.

In August, officials from the Indian tourism business will go to Moscow on a research tour. Inspections of the capital’s important landmarks and tourist infrastructure will take place, as will business discussions between Moscow and Indian tour businesses.
