Moscow & Saint Petersburg has been considered as world’s two of the best travel destinations at WTA

The 27th annual World Travel Awards is considered as one of the impressive awards in the tourist industry. It has lately recognized Moscow and Saint Petersburg as world’s two of the best travel destinations.

Saint Petersburg is known as the cultural capital of Russia. It has won the title of “World’s Leading Cultural City Destination” at 2020’s World Travel Awards, outdoing 14 most popular tourist cities, including Paris, London, Rome, Venice, New York and Rio de Janeiro, as per the Russian Federal Agency for Tourism.

“We expected victory this year as well,” the city’s governor Alexander Beglov explained while recalling that St. Petersburg clinched awards from the World Travel Awards on a repeated basis.

“Our city has a rich cultural life. We have world-famous museums, theaters, and palace and park ensembles. We are opening new tourist destinations and routes. The cultural and tourist geography of St. Petersburg is expanding.”

Well-known for its zigzag canals, Baroque and neoclassical constructions, and pastel-colored palaces, the second-largest city in Russia is considered as the focal point of high art, lavish architecture and history. It has motivated and nurtured some of the world’s greatest writers, musicians and visual artists of the modern era.

St. Petersburg is considered at the cultural center of Russia. It was established at the beginning of the 18th century. Famous locations in the city include the Winter Palace, the Kazan Cathedral and the eminent art collection at the Hermitage.

Beglov considers that the cultural capital of Russia has got the rush of tourism mainly due to electronic visa.

“Last year our city was visited by more than 10 million tourists from all over the world and from different regions of Russia,” the governor noted. “This year we were ready to receive even more guests. When the humanity cope with the pandemic, we are waiting for everyone who wants to be at the banks of the Neva again or visit our city for the first time.”

Additionally to support the tourism sector of Russia, the Caspian region’s largest and wealthiest country is all set to introduce an electronic visa in 2021 that will make the entry of foreign tourists from 53 countries way easier than what its now. The single-entry tourist visas allows tourists to stay for 16 days at the maximum for tourism, business, humanitarian activities or private reasons, will be valid for 60 days from the date of issuance. From January 1, 2021 foreigners can enter via 29 specially equipped checkpoints all through the country, including three of Moscow’s international airports – Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo.
