It is time for sweater weather, yet the new season ushers in one of nature’s most beautiful cycles: the changing of the leaves. All around the United States, oak, ash, maple, and hickory trees are undergoing marvellous transformations. And each landscape is like a flawless postcard. Visit any of these stunning locations in the United States for a quick weekend break or a longer vacation to experience autumn’s peak foliage and the most beautiful fall colours

Great Smoky Mountains, North Carolina and Tennessee

Clingmans Dome Road, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Foothills Parkway, and the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail are a few suggested picturesque routes. On foot, explore the Appalachian Trail, Inspiration Point on the Alum Cave Trail, the Oconaluftee River Trail, Look Rock Tower, and Sutton Ridge Overlook while taking in the fall colours. The Great Smoky Mountains have more than 100 different native tree species, most of which are deciduous, and they put on a spectacular fall display. Because weather is affected by elevation, the higher portions of the mountains start to change colour first and then gradually descend

Catskill Mountains, New York

Fall foliage illuminates the Great Northern Catskills’ magnificent vistas with flaming gold, tangerine, and reddish colours, making it the perfect time to visit. While there are different leaf peeping seasons in New York State, the fall foliage in the Catskills reaches its height around early- to mid-October. Before exploring the nearby cideries and breweries and the culture of the Catskills towns like Livingston Manor, Woodstock, and New Paltz, take in the landscape on a hike or scenic drive.

North Conway, New Hampshire

North Conway, which is tucked away in the Mount Washington Valley, makes the most of its location by providing a variety of opportunities for people to take in the scenery, such as from a gondola, zip line, trek, dogsled, rollercoaster, or boat. North Conway, New Hampshire, in particular, is abounding with gorgeous foliage, pumpkins, sweaters, boots, fairs, mountains, hot chocolate, and everything pumpkin spice during the autumn. The finest time of year is undoubtedly during the fall foliage season (hello, pumpkin spiced EVERYTHING). Early in the September to October season, New Hampshire has vibrant fall foliage. Take a beautiful trip between North Conway and Lincoln on the Kancamagus Highway (Route 112) in the White Mountains.

Lenox, Massachusetts

Lenox, one of the several towns in the Berkshires, is a part of a region famed for its fall foliage since it is home to Massachusetts’ biggest state forest (October Mountain State Forest). With its many hiking trails and picturesque byway, Mount Greylock makes for a great observation place. It is easy to find fall foliage hotspots in the region thanks to the abundance of natural beauties like Bash Bish Falls, most notably Bartholomew’s Cobble and Woods Pond.

Taos, New Mexico

Taos, located in New Mexico, is surrounded by the Southern Rockies’ Sangre de Cristo Mountains and offers stunning views and imaginative ways to take them in. The Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway, the High Road between Taos and Santa Fe, Highway 64, and the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad are among the attractions for fall colour.

Excellent choices for hiking include the Williams Lake Trail, the Wheeler Peak Summit Trail, and the Goose Creek Trail. A popular trail is the Columbine Trail, however Angel Fire Resort also offers the Chile Express chairlift for people who don’t want to hike.

Payette River Scenic Byway, Idaho

West of Boise, on state Highway 55, the 112-mile Payette River Scenic Byway journey begins. Peak leaf season might arrive in this region at any time between the end of August and mid-October, depending on the yearly weather patterns. Cascade’s whitewater rafting and Lake Cascade State Park’s overnight camping are two of the highlights of this route. Explore the lake’s shoreline by canoe or boat, or try your hand at off-road driving an all-terrain vehicle. Ponderosa State Park offers hiking opportunities as well as relaxing natural hot springs baths.
