Great Smoky Mountains, North Carolina and Tennessee

Clingmans Dome Road, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Foothills Parkway, and the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail are a few suggested picturesque routes. It is easy to find fall foliage hotspots in the region thanks to the abundance of natural beauties like Bash Bish Falls, most notably Bartholomew’s Cobble and Woods Pond.

Taos, New Mexico

Taos, located in New Mexico, is surrounded by the Southern Rockies’ Sangre de Cristo Mountains and offers stunning views and imaginative ways to take them in. The Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway, the High Road between Taos and Santa Fe, Highway 64, and the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad are among the attractions for fall colour.

Excellent choices for hiking include the Williams Lake Trail, the Wheeler Peak Summit Trail, and the Goose Creek Trail. A popular trail is the Columbine Trail, however Angel Fire Resort also offers the Chile Express chairlift for people who don’t want to hike.

Payette River Scenic Byway, Idaho

West of Boise, on state Highway 55, the 112-mile Payette River Scenic Byway journey begins. Peak leaf season might arrive in this region at any time between the end of August and mid-October, depending on the yearly weather patterns. Cascade’s whitewater rafting and Lake Cascade State Park’s overnight camping are two of the highlights of this route.
