The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center (BB TNBTS) has decided to temporarily restrict all tourist access to the Mount Bromo region in East Java for the purpose of undertaking a cleanup operation, as conveyed by the Head of the Administration Section of the TNBTS Center, Septi Eka Wardhani. As reported by ANTARA on Monday, April 1, Septi Eka Wardhani revealed that this decision to close off the Bromo area would be implemented during two intervals in April 2024.

Septi detailed that the initial phase of the closure would span from the start of April 4 until the end of April 5, 2024, while the second phase would commence on April 25 and conclude on April 26, 2024. The necessity to temporarily halt tourist activity in the Mount Bromo vicinity was formalized through a letter, Number: PG.3/T.8/BIDTEK/KSA.5.1/B/03/2024, and emerges as a consensus reached during a coordination meeting with various stakeholders on March 28, 2024.

The restriction of access from the Probolinggo Regency to Mount Bromo is to be enforced from the Cemorolawang entry point. Access from Pasuruan Regency will be barred from the Dingklik area, while entry points from Malang and Lumajang counties are to be closed in the Jemplang region.

The cleanup initiative is not solely a task for the TNBTS Center personnel but is also a collaborative effort involving community members from the vicinity, the Palang community, and street vendors, among other partners. This concerted action underscores the community’s involvement and the broader collaborative effort in maintaining the area’s cleanliness and sustainability.

According to the TNBTS Center’s records, Mount Bromo, as one of the prime tourist attractions in East Java, welcomed a total of 368,507 visitors in 2023, comprising both domestic and international tourists. The visitors consisted of 355,297 domestic and 13,210 foreign tourists, contributing Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) amounting to Rp. 14.70 billion.
