The mountain tourism of Indonesia is currently going through environmental and financial tough times, as per the Tourism and Economy Ministry.

Itok Parikesit, ministry’s Director of Special Interest Tourism, said that it is all about pollution that is being discussed right now and that in Jakarta, visibility is not present even up to four kilometers at this moment, stated the director at the 1st Indonesia Mountain Tourism Conference. It was held on Wednesday.

For the 1st IMTC, the ministry showed its support as an initiation to encourage the possibility of mountain tourism in Indonesia. In the meantime, besides pollution, Parikesit attracted the attention to trials and tough situations related to climate change, like sociocultural and financial impacts. In managing all the
environmental problems in tourism, he said that the ministry has joined forces with partners to organize the “We Start Now” program that targets to increase awareness in terms of climate change created by plastic waste and reinforces the execution of carbon footprint.

Parikesit emphasized that in growing sustainable mountain tourism, his side encourages climate and low-impact tourism in mountains, carries on intermittent evaluations, and applies baggage capacity in accordance with the rule.

Also, the ministry struggles to authorize local communities in developing mountain tourism while concurrently bolstering cooperation between government and the private sector in innovation and product development.
