Mövenpick Hotel Nürnberg Airport

Mövenpick Hotel Nürnberg Airport, situated a mere 50 meters from the Nürnberg Airport terminals, recently celebrated its continuous strides in sustainability by once again earning the Green Globe certification, solidifying its status as a Gold certified member for five years. This accolade is a testament to the hotel’s unwavering dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices throughout its operation.

Since 2012, the hotel has been at the forefront of eco-friendly initiatives, showcasing a commitment to minimizing environmental impact in every facet of its service. The recognition by Green Globe highlights the hotel’s ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability into its core operations.

David Friedrich, Commercial Distribution Manager at the hotel said, “We consistently work on implementing eco-friendly initiatives, aiming not only to minimize our ecological footprint but also to make a positive contribution to the global sustainability movement. Certainly, we are always striving to further develop ourselves in all areas and continuously improve. This includes, for example, keeping our carbon dioxide emissions as low as possible. In 2023, although we experienced high occupancy, we were able to record the lowest carbon dioxide emissions since the opening of our establishment.”

Efforts in Waste Reduction and Sustainable Practices
At the heart of its environmental strategy, the hotel prioritizes waste minimization, rigorous recycling, and the use of sustainable disposal techniques. The team is committed to the hotel’s guidelines on reducing plastic usage, successfully phasing out single-use plastics and embracing a Zero Waste philosophy. Guests now find eco-friendly alternatives in their rooms, significantly cutting down on plastic waste.

Emphasis on Sustainable Sourcing
The procurement policy of the hotel is firmly aligned with sustainability principles, ensuring that all products and services procured meet stringent environmental standards. The hotel sources its food and beverage offerings from local and regional providers, with the breakfast buffet featuring fresh, locally sourced produce, Fair Trade items, and organic selections.

Commitment to Social Initiatives
Beyond environmental actions, the hotel actively participates in social initiatives aimed at supporting communities. The annual Kilo of Kindness campaign, in collaboration with other Mövenpick properties, gathers essential items for donation to chosen charities. Additionally, the pre-Christmas Gifts with Heart event has become a cherished tradition, encouraging donations of gifts for underprivileged children, creating moments of happiness and spreading the holiday spirit among participants and beneficiaries alike.

“These projects are just examples of our ongoing commitment to social responsibility. We firmly believe that it is our duty to make a positive contribution and support those in need of help. Our gratitude goes to our valued guests and dedicated employees who contribute to this successful social commitment year after year,” concluded Mr. Friedrich.
