MSC Cruises’ Fleet Empowered by SpaceX’s Starlink Connectivity

SpaceX’s Starlink connectivity is now operational on two-thirds of MSC Cruises’ ships, with the entire fleet rollout expected to be completed by May 2024. This innovative low earth orbit solution has already proven its worth, delivering faster internet speeds, enhanced Wi-Fi coverage in cabins and public areas, reduced latency, and decreased operational costs across 15 of MSC’s 22 vessels. Following successful bandwidth and data traffic trials in 2022, MSC Magnifica became the pioneer vessel to integrate Starlink in December of that year.

The demand for onboard bandwidth continues to surge, driven by a growing number of connected devices and the proliferation of guest applications. Starlink ensures that MSC Cruises remains well-equipped to meet the evolving needs of passengers, crew, and the technical demands of its expansive fleet.

Presently, the MSC Cruises’ ships benefiting from Starlink technology include MSC Divina, MSC Euribia, MSC Fantasia, MSC Grandiosa, MSC Lirica, MSC Magnifica, MSC Meraviglia, MSC Orchestra, MSC Poesia, MSC Preziosa, MSC Seascape, MSC Seashore, MSC Seaside, MSC Seaview, and MSC Virtuosa. The connectivity upgrade will soon extend to MSC Opera and MSC World Europa, with MSC Armonia, MSC Bellissima, MSC Musica, MSC Sinfonia, and MSC Splendida scheduled for enhanced connectivity ahead of the summer 2024 season.

Moreover, EXPLORA I, the inaugural vessel of MSC Cruises’ luxury sister company, Explora Journeys, is already equipped with Starlink, while EXPLORA II will join the fray upon her maiden voyage in August 2024.

To cater to diverse guest needs, MSC Cruises offers tailored internet packages onboard, including the ‘Browse Internet Cruise Package’ and the ‘Browse & Stream Cruise Package,’ ensuring seamless connectivity throughout the voyage.
