Network Rail is carrying out work to upgrade a level crossing in Conningham this month to improve reliability and make sure it remains fit for purpose for years to come.

Between 20:00 on Saturday, 5 March and 09:30 on Sunday, 13 March, engineers will replace the barriers and some of the equipment at Winthorpe level crossing with new, more modern modern pieces.

To allow this work to take place safely, the section of Holme Lane at the crossing will be closed during this time. A clearly signposted diversion route will be in place for drivers and the work will not impact on train services. Pedestrians will not be able to use the crossing during the project.

The improvement will create a more resilient railway and mean that the crossing can continue to be used safely and reliably. This work will also reduce the amount of maintenance and disruption required in future.

Sarah Reid, Route Director for Network Rail’s East Coast route, said: “Upgrading the barriers at Winthorpe level crossing will make sure they remain reliable for train services, and for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

“As well as improving safety for people using the crossing, the improvements will also reduce disruption for people in the community.

“This work can only take place safely when the level crossing is closed and I’d like to thank people in advance for their patience.”
