Gode Ugaas Miraad Airport

Ethiopian Airlines Group, the leading airline group in Africa, is delighted to announce the successful completion of the Gode Ugaas Miraad Airport Terminal and Aircraft Parking with Taxiway Construction Project. The cutting-edge airport terminal is now operational following a grand inauguration ceremony attended by His Excellency Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, and His Excellency Mustafe Mohammed Omer, President of the Somali Regional State.

After three years of dedicated effort, the project has unveiled a modern terminal building spanning 3,500 square meters. Additionally, a new apron with the capacity to accommodate up to four De Havilland Q400 or B737 aircraft simultaneously has been constructed. Complementary facilities including an airport rescue and firefighting station, water reservoir, and parking areas have also been completed.

Regarding the inauguration of the new passenger terminal, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew said, “We are truly pleased with the launching of Gode Ugaas Miraad Airport Terminal building and aircraft parking with taxiway construction project as it will upgrade the airport experience of our passengers traveling to/from the city of Gode. It is also a step forward in the work we do to elevate our domestic airport facilities to a higher level. The inauguration of this new terminal showcases our commitment to enhance our domestic operations alongside our international ones. Gode will neither be the only nor the last airport we will work on constructing and/or renovating. Construction of similar airport terminal is progressing well at Jinka, Kombolcha, Goba/Robe and Bahir Dar airports. It is with great honor and pleasure that we work on these projects and play our part in our country’s tourism and socio-economic growth.”

The state-of-the-art airport terminal boasts cutting-edge facilities, including a solar system, ensuring seamless and convenient travel experiences for passengers.

Ethiopian Airlines is a key player in bolstering regional connectivity, with a network spanning over 22 destinations within Ethiopia. Among these, the airport in Gode stands out as the third-largest in the Somali Regional State, trailing behind Jigjiga and Kebridahar. Offering daily flights between Gode and various destinations, including Jigjiga, Ethiopian Airlines eliminates the necessity for travelers to transit through Addis Ababa. The airline’s commitment to improving airport infrastructure is evident in its efforts focused on enhancing facilities at Gode Airport.

Following the Ethiopian Airlines Group’s acquisition of the Ethiopian Airports Enterprise as a Strategic Business Unit (SBU) in 2017, the group has assumed administrative responsibilities, including overseeing construction and renovation projects at various airports across the country.
