Authorities in Sofia have initiated a trial of a new express bus service, connecting the Central Station to the airport. This service, starting today, is facilitated by double-decker buses, which are part of an effort to offer a faster and more efficient way for commuters to travel between the city center and the airport terminals.

Features and Benefits of the New Service

The express bus line is tailored to enhance travel efficiency, significantly cutting down the travel time to approximately 25 minutes each way. The design of the service allows those traveling from the airport to the city center to enjoy even shorter travel times, now reduced to about 16 minutes from the previous 29 minutes. This decrease is achieved through a combination of fewer stops, the use of dedicated bus lanes, and direct routes along Brussels Blvd leading straight to the airport.

Service Schedule and Accessibility

The service operates from early morning until late at night to accommodate the schedules of various travelers. The first bus departs from the Central Station at 5:10 a.m., and the last bus leaves at 11:30 p.m. The buses are scheduled to arrive every 30 minutes throughout the day, which ensures that passengers have frequent and convenient options for accessing the airport.

Impact on Sofia’s Public Transportation System

This new express bus line represents a significant advancement in Sofia’s public transportation network. It is expected to not only reduce journey times but also alleviate congestion within the city. The introduction of a more rapid transit option is anticipated to enhance the overall effectiveness and reliability of public transportation in Sofia. Moreover, by providing a quicker and more direct route to the airport, the city aims to improve the travel experience for both residents and visitors, thereby boosting the accessibility of essential transport hubs.
