The recent release of the romantic film “18×2 Beyond Youthful Days,” featuring Taiwanese actor Hsu Kuang-han and Japanese actress Kaya Kiyohara, is set to significantly impact Taiwan’s tourism industry. Travel company Klook anticipates that the movie’s enchanting depiction of various Taiwanese locales will inspire a surge in visitor interest, particularly to the central and southern regions of the country where most of the film was shot. The highlighted locations include historical sites, bustling markets, and serene natural settings, each offering a unique glimpse into Taiwan’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

Among the must-visit sites is Taiwan’s First Temple of Heaven, a historical monument notable for being the only temple in Taiwan constructed through a collaboration between the government and the public. This site, along with others featured in the film, provides a deep dive into Taiwan’s architectural and spiritual legacy.

The film also showcases the vibrant life at Tainan’s Wusheng Night Market, where visitors can indulge in local culinary delights such as candied sweet potatoes and Taiwanese sausage with sticky rice. The market’s traditional games, like ring toss and balloon darts, offer an authentic Taiwanese night-market experience, contributing to the allure of the location.

Another significant location is the Chuan Mei Theater in Tainan, celebrated for its continued use of hand-painted movie billboards, a nod to traditional practices in the age of digitalization. This touch of nostalgia adds to the theater’s charm and serves as a reminder of Taiwan’s cinematic history.

Yuguang Island, also in Tainan, is highlighted for its breathtaking sunsets and peaceful forests, making it a popular spot for wedding photoshoots and nature lovers. The serene beauty of this location underscores Taiwan’s diverse landscapes, from urban centers to tranquil natural retreats.

The expected increase in visitors to these filming locations following “18×2 Beyond Youthful Days” underscores the film’s role in promoting Taiwan as a travel destination. By drawing attention to lesser-known yet picturesque sites, the film not only enriches Taiwan’s tourism offerings but also invites global travelers to explore the depth and diversity of Taiwanese culture and nature. This surge in interest is poised to benefit both the tourism sector and local economies, fostering a deeper appreciation for Taiwan’s unique blend of modernity and tradition.
