Following a refurbishment in a Spanish shipyard, the Carnival Sunrise has commenced cruising with the addition of a new venue, the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge, dedicated to honoring military personnel. Having docked in Miami, the ship now features a unique space designed to welcome both active-duty troops and veterans warmly.

The 2,984-guest Carnival Sunrise has returned to service as of March 5, 2024, after undergoing renovations from February 1 to March 3, 2024, at the Navantia shipyard in Cadiz, Spain. Among the updates, the ship boasts the newly established Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge, initially introduced across the fleet in 2019, taking over the space formerly occupied by the SkyBox Sports Bar. This venue pays homage to individuals serving in the military and veterans, adorned with American decor that symbolizes the branches of the US military.

The walls of the venue are decorated with military memorabilia, featuring messages and photos under the themes of “Welcome Home,” “Thank You for Your Service,” and “America’s Heroes.” It was mentioned that for each purchase of an exclusive souvenir glass at the venue, Carnival Cruise Line commits to donating $1 to Operation Homefront, an entity that provides support to military families.

The inclusion of this dedicated military lounge complements the ship’s patriotic design, which showcases a red, white, and blue livery and hull, added during a 2022 refurbishment.

The recent upgrades to the Carnival Sunrise, completed right before spring break, aim to enrich the guest experience with a variety of itineraries departing from PortMiami. These include 4- and 5-day trips to the Western and Eastern Caribbean, as well as 4-day excursions to the Bahamas, featuring stops at destinations such as Key West, Cozumel, Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, Nassau, Princess Cays, Grand Turk, and Half Moon Cay.

In addition to introducing the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge, the refurbishment also focused on routine hotel maintenance and cosmetic enhancements throughout public spaces. Moreover, modifications were made to ensure public areas and select staterooms meet ADA compliance standards.

The Carnival Sunrise’s introduction of the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge following its dry dock signifies a thoughtful acknowledgment of military personnel’s service and contributes positively to the cruise tourism industry. This initiative not only enhances the onboard experience for guests but also strengthens the connection between the cruising community and military families. As the ship embarks on its diverse Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries, this unique venue is expected to play a pivotal role in attracting tourists who value both leisure and the opportunity to honor military members, thereby impacting tourism favorably.
