Lake Macquarie in Australia is set to become an even more attractive destination for tourists with the introduction of regular whale-watching and offshore cruises, thanks to the launch of CoastXP’s new vessel, Hydro. This addition marks a significant step forward for the local ecotourism company, which will now operate from Swansea RSL wharf for offshore adventures and Belmont Baths jetty for closer-to-shore excursions. The 12-seat Hydro vessel is a testament to the company’s commitment to enhancing Lake Macquarie’s ecotourism offerings.
Dominic May, the director of CoastXP, expressed excitement over the boat being stationed full-time in Lake Mac, emphasizing the unique ecotourism activities the lake will now host. The company has joined forces with local hospitality businesses, such as Gather & Graze, TINTA Belmont, and 8 at Trinity, to craft lunch and cruise packages that promise unparalleled experiences.
Echoing the enthusiasm, Lake Macquarie Deputy Mayor Madeline Bishop highlighted the shared goal between the Lake Macquarie City Council and CoastXP to cultivate the city as a sustainable tourism hotspot. She underscored the importance of celebrating the region’s natural splendor while ensuring minimal environmental impact.
The tours, varying from 1.5 to four hours and possibly including a lunch break, are designed to cater to a broad audience, from families with children to couples and individual visitors. Especially notable are the whale-watching cruises offered during the winter peak season, lasting about 2.5 hours and providing a unique opportunity to witness these majestic creatures.
Initially set to run on weekends with potential weekday excursions based on demand, these tours are tailored to entertain and engage a diverse group of tourists. May’s initiative to introduce varying tour lengths aims to accommodate the preferences and schedules of kids, families, and all types of visitors, further enhancing Lake Macquarie’s appeal as a tourist destination.
