Noida International Airport has reached a major milestone by completing the calibration of its Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI). A Beech King Air 360ER from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) initiated the calibration work on Thursday, October 10, and wrapped up the process by October 14, 2024. The AAI, with backing from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), undertook this critical task to enhance NIA’s operational preparedness and ensure top-tier safety standards for approaching aircraft.
The ILS, a sophisticated radio navigation tool, provides pilots with accurate guidance for landing approaches, especially under low-visibility conditions. This system has two primary components:

This system is indispensable for maintaining safety, as it enables safe landings even in foggy, rainy, or otherwise adverse weather conditions, thereby helping to reduce potential delays and boost the airport’s operational reliability.
In addition, the PAPI consists of a series of lights located beside the runway, offering pilots visual cues on their descent angle during the final approach.

The successful calibration of both the ILS and PAPI marks a pivotal step for Noida International Airport as it advances towards its official opening.
