In March 2024, Norfolk International Airport (ORF) saw a notable 12.5 percent surge in passenger activity, with 375,062 passengers passing through compared to 333,484 in March 2023. This marked the busiest March ever for the airport and continued a streak of 14 consecutive months of record-breaking passenger numbers. From January to March 2024, the total passenger count rose by 12 percent to 976,967 passengers, up from 872,106 passengers during the same period in 2023.
On the cargo front, March 2024 witnessed 4,108,336 pounds of cargo moving in and out of the airport, a decline of 25.8 percent compared to the 5,539,346 pounds handled in March 2023. Similarly, from January to March 2024, cargo volumes decreased by 26 percent to 11,211,370 pounds, down from 15,153,539 pounds in the first quarter of the previous year.
These statistics encompass the operations of scheduled airlines like Allegiant, American, Breeze, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Spirit, United, and their partners, as well as charter airlines. Additionally, all-cargo carriers such as Federal Express and UPS contribute to the airport’s cargo movements.
