In an exciting development for Northern Ireland’s tourism industry, twelve travel agents from Lufthansa City Center, a renowned travel agency franchise based in Germany, embarked on a familiarization trip to Northern Ireland. This visit, organized by Tourism Ireland and Tourism NI, aimed to showcase the region’s myriad attractions and enhance the agents’ ability to promote Northern Ireland as a prime destination to their clientele back home.

The group’s journey commenced with a direct flight from Frankfurt to Belfast City Airport, courtesy of Lufthansa. This gesture not only facilitated a seamless travel experience for the agents but also served as a reminder of the convenient access German tourists have to Northern Ireland, thanks to Lufthansa’s efficient service.

Nadine Lehmann, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for Germany, expressed enthusiasm about hosting the group, highlighting the visit as an opportunity to underscore the ease of travel from Frankfurt to Belfast and to ignite the agents’ passion for Northern Ireland’s diverse attractions. Lehmann’s vision is for these travel professionals to return to Germany with renewed zeal for Northern Ireland, thus ensuring a more substantial engagement from the German market in 2024 and beyond.

The itinerary for the agents was meticulously planned to encompass some of Northern Ireland’s most iconic sites and experiences. They explored Titanic Belfast, delved into history at the Ulster Museum, and stepped into the fantastical world of the Game of Thrones Studio Tour. Adventure was on the agenda too, with the group enjoying canoeing on Strangford Lough, guided by Mobile Team Adventure, and savoring culinary delights at Tracey’s Farmhouse Kitchen. Furthermore, an electric bike tour around Castlewellan Forest Park, led by Life Adventure Centre, offered them a unique perspective on Northern Ireland’s natural beauty.

This initiative by Tourism Ireland and Tourism NI, in collaboration with Lufthansa City Center, not only highlights the commitment to promoting Northern Ireland’s tourism sector but also showcases the potential for increased tourist traffic from Germany. By equipping travel professionals with firsthand experiences of the destination, the project aims to inspire a new wave of German tourists to explore the enchanting landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture of Northern Ireland.
