By incorporating these cultural elements into the tourism experience, the region aims to maintain a unique identity that can be effectively marketed to domestic and international travelers.
By emphasizing the need for digital storytelling and branding, the summit sought to promote the use of modern tools in enhancing Northern Mindanao’s appeal. The summit also highlighted the impressive growth the region’s tourism industry has experienced. As of the third quarter of 2025, Northern Mindanao welcomed over 1.3 million overnight visitors, marking a substantial increase in both domestic and international travel. This growth reflects the region’s rising appeal as a tourist destination and speaks to the effectiveness of local tourism officers in promoting the area’s attractions and capabilities.
This increasing visitor arrival has also driven improvements in the region’s infrastructure and tourism services. In line with these advancements, a total of 496 tourism establishments were accredited by the Department of Tourism as of November 30, 2025. This increase in accredited establishments is a testament to the growing professionalism and capacity of the region’s tourism sector, ensuring that visitors have access to high-quality services and accommodations.

Over 3,450 individuals have completed the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence training as of November 27, 2025, ensuring that tourism workers are equipped with the skills necessary to provide outstanding service to visitors. Additionally, 79 tourism-related training programmes have reached approximately 4,200 participants, further enhancing the region’s capabilities in service delivery.
The region’s focus on skills development is aimed at creating a workforce that upholds the values of Filipino hospitality, which has long been a cornerstone of the country’s tourism appeal. This commitment to professionalism is seen as essential in maintaining high service standards and ensuring that the tourism industry remains competitive in an ever-evolving global market.
The summit also addressed the challenges posed by natural disasters, which have affected parts of the country, including Northern Mindanao. Despite these setbacks, the resilience of local communities and tourism workers was acknowledged. The Department of Tourism continues to work closely with partner agencies to support recovery efforts and ensure that the welfare of tourism workers remains a top priority. Through collaborative efforts, the tourism sector in Northern Mindanao has shown remarkable strength in bouncing back from the impacts of these disasters.
A critical takeaway from the summit was the recognition of the vital role played by tourism officers in shaping the future of the region’s tourism industry. As frontline leaders and storytellers, tourism officers are tasked with not only promoting the region’s tourism offerings but also addressing the challenges that arise. Strengthening the leadership capacity of tourism officers remains a top priority for the Department of Tourism, as effective leadership at the local level is crucial in driving the success of tourism initiatives.
The summit emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in achieving long-term growth. Tourism officers were encouraged to continue their work in organizing events, assisting visitors, coordinating with stakeholders, and advancing product development to maintain the region’s momentum. The DOT’s support for local initiatives was also a key theme throughout the summit, reflecting the government’s commitment to sustainable tourism that benefits both visitors and local communities.
The summit concluded with discussions on digital transformation and the preservation of cultural heritage. The Department of Tourism recognizes that travellers’ expectations are rapidly evolving, and staying ahead of these changes requires embracing technological innovations. Digital transformation initiatives are crucial in ensuring that the region’s tourism offerings remain relevant and accessible to a tech-savvy audience. Moreover, cultural preservation programmes are vital in maintaining the authenticity of Northern Mindanao’s rich cultural heritage while promoting it to a global audience.
The Department of Tourism also highlighted the significance of community-based tourism programmes, which are being developed to ensure that tourism benefits are shared equitably among local communities. These initiatives aim to create a tourism model that not only supports economic growth but also prioritizes environmental sustainability and cultural integrity.
The Northern Mindanao Tourism Officers Summit was a significant milestone in the region’s tourism development journey. Through collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to sustainable and community-centred tourism, the region is poised to continue its upward trend in the global tourism landscape. The summit’s discussions reaffirmed the region’s vision for a resilient tourism industry that empowers communities, promotes long-term growth, and offers meaningful visitor experiences.
Northern Mindanao is well-positioned to thrive as a model of sustainable tourism in the Philippines, thanks to the continued dedication of local tourism officers, ongoing support from the Department of Tourism, and a commitment to developing a competitive and resilient tourism industry.
