In a strategic move to invigorate tourism in Northern Vietnam, the Bắc Giang Provincial Tourism Association recently spearheaded the 2024 Tourism Development Cooperation and Linkage Programme, in partnership with counterparts from 23 northern provinces and cities. This initiative, underscored by a collective vision for the sector’s expansion, convened industry stakeholders including Vũ Thế Bình, the chairman of the Việt Nam Tourism Association, Mai Sơn, vice chairman of the People’s Committee of Bắc Giang Province, and representatives from numerous travel and tourism businesses.

Participants at the event unanimously recognized the indispensable role of collaboration and linkage in cultivating a robust tourism ecosystem. By interconnecting diverse regions, this strategy aims to amplify the unique offerings of each locality, thereby enriching the tourism landscape with a spectrum of compelling and varied experiences. Moreover, such cooperative efforts are anticipated to bolster competitive edges, pool resources, enhance promotional endeavors, and invigorate socio-economic progression both locally and across regions.

Mai Sơn brought attention to Bắc Giang’s inherent tourism potential, noting, however, that its full capacity has yet to be harnessed. The province is currently prioritizing the development of eco-tourism, resorts, and cultural, sports, and entertainment venues, linked to its scenic, historical, and cultural assets. A special focus is placed on cultivating tourist areas that facilitate connectivity with neighboring localities, thereby weaving an integrated regional tourism fabric.

Sơn expressed optimism that the assembly would catalyze the promotion of Bắc Giang’s tourism prospects to a broader audience, encouraging the exchange of developmental insights and successes among participating provinces. Nevertheless, the dialogue also shed light on existing barriers to effective collaboration, including a lack of unified strategic approaches and a comprehensive understanding of the importance of tourism linkages among some industry members.

To navigate these challenges, the assembly proposed several forward-thinking strategies aimed at reinforcing inter-provincial tourism alliances. Recommendations spanned from sharing developmental experiences and harmonizing regional tourism initiatives to crafting innovative and breakthrough tourism offerings. Emphasis was placed on transitioning towards a regional tourism model, promoting a modern, distinctive, and secure tourism image, and enhancing cooperative promotional efforts.

The dialogue culminated in the proposal of collaborative agreements designed to facilitate tourist exchanges between businesses and destinations, alongside concerted efforts to attract investment in the tourism sector, develop human resources, and provide mutual support among member associations.

This concerted endeavor marks a pivotal step towards realizing a more interconnected and prosperous tourism landscape in Northern Vietnam, setting a precedent for regional collaboration in the industry.
