The theme of 2024 African Heritage Month – Our Smiles, Our Joy, Our Resilience as African Nova Scotians.

Nova Scotia has over 50 African Nova Scotian communities of historic importance with an extended, deep and intricate history dating back to over 400 years. African Heritage Month offers a chance to rejoice and encourage the achievements, culture and contributions of people in Nova Scotia of African descent, past and present. 

By visiting these museums and cultural centres, one may connect with the rich history of African Nova Scotian culture.

The events to attend this month: 

One can explore Africville Museum. Exhibits guides through the history of Africville, while rejoicing the community spirit that still stands tall.

Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia can be good stop to know about African culture and heritage. 

Black Loyalist Heritage Centre, Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Viola’s Way, Army Museum – Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site and many such attractions make Nova Scotia truly unique.
