The Maldives has welcomed over 50,000 tourists in the first nine days of July 2025, as the Maldives’ tourism continues to flourish. The Ministry of Tourism has marked 51,952 tourist inflow at the Velana International Airport (VIA) in the time from July 1 to July 9, registering spectacular 16.6% growth from the same 2024 period. From January 1 to July 9, 2025, 1,160,082 tourists have visited the Maldives, indicating 9.4% growth in the same period in 2024, where 1,060,086 tourists were welcomed. The first seven-month visits in 2025 also surpassed the 971,382 arrivals who visited in the same period in 2023, confirming the Maldives as one of the world’s premier tourism destinations.

Maldives achieved history on 7 June 2025 by accommodating its one-millionth tourist in the year, for the first time in the history of the nation to reach the milestone at this early time in the year. The one-millionth tourist, Kajal Singh, spent her honeymoon at Malahini Kuda Bandos. The Ministry of Tourism celebrated the occasion by staging special events at VIA, in recognition of the Maldives’ commitment to sustainable tourism. The guest participated in the planting of trees at Hulhulé, symbolizing the environment efforts of the nation.

When we observe the statistics of monthly arrival, the Maldives keeps registering constant growth in the number of arrivals for every month:

January 2025: 214,863 arrivals

February 2025: 214,091 arrivals

Apart from resort accommodation, 259,811 travellers have utilized guesthouses, 31,928 utilized hotels, 25,491 utilized liveaboards, and 827 others utilized other categories of establishment.

Russia, briefly leading the chart during the initial weeks of January, now ranks in the second position contributing 11.6% of the arrival in the form of 134,356 tourists.
