OAG, a prominent data platform within the global travel industry, has unveiled the winners of its prestigious Asia-Pacific (ASPAC) Aviation Network Champions awards today. These awards celebrate the significant progress made by airlines and airports across the ASPAC region since 2019 as they strive towards recovery. The recognition encompasses various categories focusing on frequency and capacity growth for both short and long-haul operators, along with the enhancement of networks and routes.

By leveraging its extensive network of flight information and market performance data, OAG has identified the top-performing airlines and airports based on their connectivity, capacity growth, and recovery efforts. The categories honored include:

– Capacity Growth Airlines: Recognizing airlines that have achieved the highest growth (%) in capacity between 2019 and 2023.
– Frequency Growth Airlines: Acknowledging carriers that have demonstrated the most significant increase (%) in flight frequency between 2019 and 2023.
– Most Improved Network Airlines: Highlighting airlines that have added the most new flight routes in 2023 compared to 2019.
– Most Recovered Airports: Identifying airports based on the growth (%) in airline capacity between 2019 and 2023.

– Fastest Growing Airports: Recognizing and commending airports that have exhibited the highest percentage growth in airline capacity change from Q4 2023 compared to Q4 2022.

VietJet emerges as a standout performer across three airline categories: Capacity Growth and Frequency Growth (both for short-haul LCC), as well as Most Improved Network. Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport is recognized as the Most Recovered airport, while Hong Kong earns distinction as the Fastest Growing. Additionally, the list highlights noteworthy route performances from the past year, such as Incheon – Tokyo Narita, identified as the Most Competitive International City Pair.

“The global aviation market has fully recovered with ASPAC still lagging behind. Depending on global macroeconomics and the full recovery of the Chinese outbound market, the full recovery should occur end of 2024 or early 2025,” said Mayur Patel, head of the ASPAC Region at OAG. “With rising aircraft orders placed in the region, increasing disposable incomes, and a hunger for travel, ASPAC is poised to lead the industry in the next decade.”
