Western Writers of America,

The Western Writers of America termed Daniel Boyd, in reality, Columbus, OH, resident and erstwhile Gahanna, Daniel Stumpf, OH, Police Chief as the winner of the Spur Award 2024 for Best Traditional Western Novel.

Stumpf explained that receiving this Spur is an extremely honor for him. He spent years submitting this to the agents and publishers who requested for important changes or banned it out-and-out. However, he liked it the way it was, and it was a true pleasure for him to see the Western Writers of America reach to an agreement with him.

AESOP’S TRAVELS has been written in the bumpy and unruly Dakota Territory. Charlie Greenfield rides out to search for a vengeance on the men who falsely alleged him for a murder case, escorted by Aesop, an orphaned kid and barkeep Beefy Beaumont.

The names of the winners and finalists of Spur Award were announced on March 9th at the Tucson Festival of Books. Presentations are planned during WWA’s convention between June 19-22 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Since 1953, WWA has encouraged and expressed gratefulness to the best in Western literature with the annual Spur Awards, nominated by the judges of the panel. This was positively a great year for Western song, documentary, literature, and poetry, R.G. Yoho said.
