Published on December 16, 2025

A landmark event in the world of aviation and the relationship between Oman and Singapore is about to usher in a new era of opportunity for trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. Oman Air is launching non-stop flights from Muscat to Singapore from 2nd July 2026, with four non-stop flights a week. By launching this new airline service, Oman Air celebrates the 40-year mark of diplomatical relationships between the two countries.

The introduction of direct flights between Muscat and Singapore is seen as a transformational move, fundamentally changing the way people from both countries travel and interact. Syed Noureddin bin Syed Hassim, Charge d’Affaires and Minister-Counsellor at the Embassy of Singapore in Muscat, called this new air link a “game-changer” for tourism, trade, and investment. He emphasized the profound impact the new connectivity will have on people-to-people exchanges, particularly in a year that celebrates four decades of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

“Direct connectivity fundamentally changes the possibilities for travel, business, and people-to-people exchanges. This is a very exciting and meaningful development,” said Syed Noureddin. He noted that Oman, despite its growing reputation as a premium, experience-led destination, remains a “hidden gem” for many Singaporeans and Southeast Asian travelers. With the new air link, short leisure breaks to Oman become more feasible, opening up new opportunities for travel enthusiasts from Singapore to explore the Sultanate.

Boosting Trade Ties Between Oman and Singapore

In addition to fostering tourism, the new route is expected to bolster economic ties between Oman and Singapore, both of which are strategically positioned at opposite ends of the Indian Ocean. Bilateral trade between the two countries currently exceeds OMR 500 million annually, with petrochemicals being a significant sector of focus. However, both governments see this new air link as a catalyst for growth, as it will help promote greater awareness, facilitate easier access, and increase the frequency of business travel.

The two countries also share aligned ambitions in sectors such as logistics, digital services, Fintech, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing. Syed Noureddin highlighted that Oman and Singapore can function as complementary hubs, with Oman serving as a gateway to the GCC, East Africa, and Europe, while Singapore connects to Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, and the broader Asia-Pacific region. This interconnectivity offers enormous potential for expanding trade and investment flows between the two economies.

Strengthening Sustainability and Green Energy Collaboration

One of the most promising areas of cooperation between Oman and Singapore lies in sustainability and clean energy. Oman’s vast solar and wind energy potential, combined with Singapore’s growing energy transition needs, creates a natural partnership for collaboration in renewable energy and green technologies. The new air link further strengthens this cooperation by facilitating the exchange of knowledge, technology, and resources in these key sectors.

The Role of Oneworld Alliance in Expanding Connectivity

The new Muscat-Singapore route gains added significance through Oman Air’s recent integration into the oneworld alliance. This partnership will provide passengers with seamless connections to key markets in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and other Asia-Pacific destinations. The oneworld alliance’s extensive network strengthens the role of Singapore’s Changi Airport as a critical gateway for international travel, particularly to Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

Oman Air CEO Con Korfiatis emphasized that the new service would allow the airline to tap into high-demand Asia-Pacific corridors while positioning Muscat as a bridge between East and West. The Muscat-Singapore route will initially operate four times a week using Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with plans to scale up to daily flights as demand grows.

Muscat’s Role as a Strategic Hub

The introduction of direct flights to Singapore will elevate Muscat’s status as an important hub linking Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Europe. For Singapore, the new route offers direct access to Oman, a fast-growing destination for both tourism and investment in the Gulf region. The new connectivity provides Singaporean travelers with access to Oman’s rich cultural experiences, luxury offerings, and emerging tourism market.

Lim Ching Kiat, Executive Vice President of Air Hub & Cargo Development at Changi Airport Group, noted that Oman Air’s new direct service to Muscat would complement Changi’s wide connectivity network, creating new travel opportunities between the two markets. This service will increase the appeal of Oman as a vacation and business destination for Southeast Asia and Pacific travelers.

Future Growth and Opportunities

This new route between Muscat and Singapore is just the beginning, as Oman Air continues to evaluate additional destinations for expansion. The airline is in talks with India’s IndiGo Airlines for a codeshare partnership, which would significantly expand Oman Air’s reach across India and connect with more destinations in the region. Furthermore, the airline is planning new route launches in 2026 and beyond, with a focus on commercial sustainability and strategic alignment.

The airline’s growing fleet, which includes Boeing 787 wide-body aircraft and a growing number of narrow-body 737 planes, will support the expansion of Oman Air’s regional and medium-haul networks, providing more options for travelers.

A Bright Future for Oman-Singapore Connections

Direct flights from Muscat to Singapore and vice versa introduce a whole new chapter in the relations between these two countries. This is expected to foster not only trade and tourism between the two countries but also ensure the long-term growth and development of both nations. Supported by the oneworld alliance, the connectivity between the Gulf and Asia-Pacific regions is going to drive further collaboration in aspects such as business, culture, and sustainability.
