On January 2024, Nepal will organize its first LGBT+ tourism conference with an aim to place this Himalayan country as a welcoming destination for all sexual minorities on international travel map.
This two-day conference will be starting from Jan. 18th in the capital, Kathmandu, after a significant verdict passed in November, turning the country as the first South Asian nation to permit same-sex marriage.
The first gay erstwhile parliamentarian in Asia and leading LGBTQ rights activist, Sunil Babu Pant, informed the reporters on Wednesday that Nepal is considered a winner and create a hope for LGBTI rights in South Asia. At present, it’s all set for business.
For long time, Nepal has attracted trekkers and mountaineers worldwide. Now, the country is set to draw LGBT+ tourists and generate more opportunities related to job. These are the people who barely get opportunity to work abroad due to their distinct orientation.
Pant explained that the conference has a chance to act as an opportunity to attract LGBT+ tourists and encourage Nepal as a welcoming country. Almost one million Nepalis look for employment overseas every year, mainly in countries like Malaysia and Gulf cooperation council, where laws can be severe for the LGBT+ community.
