On the Mandi-Kullu Road, Traffic Jam Creates Major Problem for Tourists

On the Mandi-Kullu road, traffic jams have become a common day scenario, as huge rush of tourists to Kullu and Manali has risen immensely all at once. With rising temperatures in the plains, many tourist vehicles can now be seen travelling regularly to Kullu and Manali.

Currently, the administration is experiencing major problem in handling this issue related to traffic jam on the Mandi-Kullu road. This road has recently been widened into four lanes. On the Mandi-Pandoh road, the worst scenario related to traffic jams can be seen. The National Highways Authority of India has employed its workforce and machinery to tackle the problem. The president of Kullu-Manali Paryatan Vikas Mandal, Anup Thakur, says that the tourists coming to Manali are pinpointing this issue of traffic jam between Mandi and Kullu. In the last one week, this situation has become worse and on priority basis, the problem should be resolved to make sure that tourism is not hit unfavourably.

He has also said that Kullu and Manali’s room occupancy in hotels has increased to 90 per cent. It’s a good sign for the sector though. We are quite optimist that the hotel industry in June will see good business in Kullu and Manali.
Information by the Tribune from the Police Department shows that on June 12th, vehicles crossing in and out via Hathithan in Kullu have increased to 15,204. In the same way, the number of vehicles on the same day in Mandi crossing in and out at Dhanotu Chowk was 20,048.
