The tourism department of the county has been working really hard to bring the annual tourism conference of the state to Oswego.

Phil Church, Oswego County Administrator, has been working for over eight years to bring a National Marine Sanctuary to this part of Lake Ontario.

All these initiations have come to completion. The annual conference of New York State Tourism Industry Association, today through Friday, will be organized at Oswego’s Lake Ontario Event & Conference Center.

The director of Strategic Initiatives and manager of the Department of Community Development, Oswego County, Dave Turner, pitched Oswego for the last three years to arrange this conference to NYSTIA. Bob Provost, its president and CEO, visited Oswego three times before he gave his green signal.

Those two efforts, jointly, particularly, in light of that designation of the sanctuary, almost a certainty at this moment, brought Provost to yes.

The reason they’re in Oswego is that this place is poised with the formation of the National Marine Sanctuary. Provost said on Monday that it is going to be a transformational change.

He talked about all the good things that the Marine Sanctuary will usher in terms of developing the living standard, the quality of life, and the delight of place for these communities along the Lake Ontario coastline.
