Experience the epitome of barefoot luxury at OUTRIGGER Reef Waikiki Beach Resort, where Hawaiian music and culture blend seamlessly with the new sensation of ‘Merrimaking.’ Recently celebrating the grand opening of its flagship beachfront restaurant, Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman, led by culinary innovator Peter Merriman, this resort embodies the essence of Hawaiian hospitality.

Nestled on the iconic sands of Waikiki Beach, OUTRIGGER Reef Waikiki Beach Resort boasts a contemporary design infused with Hawaiian charm. From carefully curated art exhibits to upscale residential-style accommodations, chic poolside lounges, and the revamped Kani Ka Pila Grille and Cyril Pahinui Stage, every detail reflects the spirit of the islands.

Spanning three wings—the Ocean Tower, Pacific Tower, and newly reimagined Diamond Head Tower—the resort offers a range of accommodations, including 23 spacious rooms and deluxe suites in the oceanfront Diamond Head Tower, featuring the luxurious Coral Reef Penthouse Suite. Additionally, guests can indulge in wellness experiences at the Waiola Wellness Wing, exclusive amenities at the Voyager 47 Club Lounge, and family-friendly activities at the Coral Kids Club, all while staying active at the state-of-the-art fitness center.

At the heart of the resort lies Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman, a vibrant 12,000-square-foot restaurant located at the base of the Diamond Head Tower. With breathtaking ocean views and a relaxed ambiance, this modern eatery celebrates the art of craft cuisine. Each dish on the menu showcases the finest local ingredients, innovative preparations, and culinary mastery, inviting guests on a journey of flavor and indulgence.

“From the architectural design of the space to the carefully curated ingredients on the menu – our team was intentional about creating a place that is both casual and festive while using locally sourced, renewable, and sustainable products at every opportunity,” said Sara Hill, CEO of Handcrafted Restaurants.

The menu at Monkeypod Kitchen showcases the rich diversity of Hawai‘i’s offerings, featuring socially conscious ingredients and unique combinations of upscale delicacies and local favorites. Authenticity defines the dining experience at Monkeypod Kitchen, allowing patrons to forge a profound connection with the islands through their culinary journey, complemented by refreshing beverages and live music.

“The exquisite transformation of OUTRIGGER Reef Waikiki Beach Resort underscores our unwavering commitment to creating spaces where culture, adventure, and relaxation intertwine seamlessly,” said Jeff Wagoner, president and CEO of OUTRIGGER Hospitality Group. “Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman is the perfect complement for this iconic beachfront retreat, honoring a meaningful sense of place and enabling our guests to connect deeply to the islands through craft food, drink, and live music.”

Around 500 distinguished guests, comprising celebrities, top executives, partners, musicians, and esteemed members of the community, congregated at OUTRIGGER Reef Waikiki Beach Resort to mark the official Grand Opening of Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman. This event also marked the commencement of the annual Travel Weekly Leadership Forum. Alongside Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman and Travel Weekly, notable event collaborators included: Accel, Blue Hawaiian, Kona Brewing Co, Kualoa Ranch, NMG Network, The Orchid Lei Company, PATH bottled water, and Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits of Hawai‘i.

The evening’s proceedings supported the OUTRIGGERCares Foundation, a 501c3 organization dedicated to providing grants and assistance to OUTRIGGER hosts affected by events like the Maui fires last August. Nick Lachey, lead singer of the multi-platinum-selling band 98 Degrees and a renowned television personality, presented a $5,000 donation to the OUTRIGGER Cares Foundation.
