Impending winter storm set to disrupt Northeast travel Tuesday, with over 1,000 flights canceled. Airlines offer waivers for affected passengers.
As the winter storm approaches the Northeast, Tuesday is expected to bring significant disruptions to air travel in the area. The forecast suggests New York City may see up to eight inches of snow, while Boston could face even more, potentially exceeding a foot.
By early Tuesday morning, at 6:00 a.m. ET, there have already been over 1,011 flight cancellations reported by the flight monitoring site FlightAware. A large portion of these, about 156 or 19% of its total operations, are attributed to JetBlue.
In anticipation of the storm, several airlines have offered waivers to provide passengers with more flexibility to alter their travel plans. Those flying to, from, or within the Northeast on Tuesday are advised to keep an eye on their flight’s status and think about rescheduling to bypass the brunt of the storm.
The aftermath of the storm on Wednesday could also lead to challenging travel conditions, as airlines may need additional time to resume normal operations once the severe weather has passed.
The following airlines have announced waivers for affected travelers:
