On the morning of February 6, Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru experienced operational disruptions due to adverse weather conditions. Officials at the airport reported that the inclement weather led to the delay of over 25 flights, affecting both departures and arrivals. This weather phenomenon has prompted various airlines to notify their passengers about the impact on flight schedules at KIA.

IndiGo took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to issue a travel advisory, stating, “6ETravelAdvisory: Due to bad weather, flight operations in #Bengaluru are impacted. Please check your flight status at http://bit.ly/2EjJGGT before leaving for the airport.” This announcement was aimed at ensuring passengers were informed about the potential delays and could plan their travel to the airport accordingly.

Similarly, Vistara reported a disruption in its schedule with a flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru being diverted. The airline communicated via a social media post, “#DiversionUpdate: Flight UK845 from Mumbai to Bengaluru (BOM-BLR) has been diverted to Coimbatore (CJB) due to adverse weather conditions in Bengaluru (BLR) airport and is expected to arrive in Coimbatore at 0830hrs. Please stay tuned for further updates.” This diversion highlights the significant impact that weather conditions can have on flight paths and schedules.

The cause of the delays and diversions at KIA has been identified as radiation fog, a common occurrence in Bengaluru during the months from November to February. Typically manifesting between 3 a.m. and 8.30 a.m., this type of fog significantly reduces visibility, thereby affecting flight operations at the airport.

The adverse weather and resulting operational disruptions at KIA not only impact airline schedules but also have a broader effect on local tourism. Visitors planning to arrive or depart from Bengaluru during this period may face delays, which could affect their travel plans, accommodations, and activities in the region. This underscores the importance for tourists and business travelers alike to stay informed about weather conditions and potential flight changes when traveling to or from Bengaluru during these fog-prone months.
