The Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia, through cooperation with the Provincial Government of Steung Treng, has arranged for a Policy Promotion Workshop on Gender Equality in Tourism, which fosters inclusive growth in the field of tourism and empowers women within this industry. This was held under the leadership of H.E. Hun Dani, Secretary of State and High Representative, as well as H.E. Sor Soputra, Governor of Steung Treng Provincial Board, and brought together a number of participants consisting of members of the tourism ministry, province government members, tourism companies, and youths as volunteers.

Empowering Women to Foster Inclusive Tourism

During the workshop, H.E. Hun Dani emphasized that the initiative strengthens the role and participation of women in the tourism sector, aligning with the 6th GEM Women Strategic Plan (2024–2028) and the Government’s Gender Equitable Policy. Women are encouraged to lead in decision-making, operational management, and policy development, promoting an inclusive tourism ecosystem that values diverse perspectives and equitable opportunities.

By increasing women’s representation in tourism governance, Cambodia ensures inclusive growth, where benefits from heritage, eco-tourism, and cultural tourism are shared broadly, empowering communities while enhancing visitor experiences. This initiative positions women as key drivers of tourism development, enhancing their participation in heritage, eco-tourism, and cultural sectors, thereby stimulating visitor engagement, economic activity, and tourism sector growth across Cambodia.

The workshop highlighted the integration of heritage tourism with inclusive development strategies.
