Paris leads as women’s choice for romantic proposals

One out of every four British women considers the act of proposing to be empowering. Paris, Rome, and Venice are the leading choices for those looking to propose to their partners, offering the perfect backdrop for romance. Envisioning a perfect proposal, many dream of intimate dinners, beachside settings, or a serene boat trip. This Leap Day, an overwhelming majority of British women are contemplating taking the lead in their relationships by proposing.

Challenging conventional gender roles, a recent survey by the rapidly expanding travel company, easyJet Holidays, uncovered that a quarter of women are more inclined to propose on Leap Day than on any other date.

For those plotting a heartfelt proposal, easyJet Holidays has identified the most sought-after locations for Leap Year engagements, with Paris, the city synonymous with love, leading the charge, followed by the romantic allure of Rome and Venice’s picturesque canals. The company is encouraging women planning to propose to reach out via their social media platforms.

Furthermore, the study revealed that British women’s ideal locations for proposals range from a secluded romantic dinner (61%), a picturesque beach setting (43%), to a tranquil boat ride (35%). Additional favored spots include a cliff overlooking the sunset (28%), beneath the mesmerizing Northern Lights (24%), or atop a majestic mountain (16%).

Rooted in folklore, the tradition dates back to the 5th century when St. Brigid of Kildare voiced concerns to St. Patrick about women waiting too long for men to propose. In response, St. Patrick declared that women could propose on one day every four years.

With 39% of British women viewing the leap year tradition as a chance for an engaging story for the future, this period represents a unique opportunity to redefine relationship dynamics.

Despite 24% of women worrying their partners might not appreciate the gesture, over a third (37%) see women proposing as a positive shift, and 23% think a Leap Day proposal could alleviate some pressure from their partners.
