Paris Metro ticket prices to nearly double during 2024 Olympics

In response to the heightened demand and increased operational expenses anticipated during the 2024 Paris Olympics, the city’s regional transport authority has unveiled a substantial revision in metro ticket pricing.

The primary objective behind this move is to counterbalance the costs associated with catering to the transportation needs of the millions of additional visitors expected throughout the Games. As per the official announcement, the cost of individual metro tickets is slated to undergo a nearly twofold surge, escalating from 2.10 euros to 4 euros.

Likewise, the pricing structure for 10-ticket bundles will witness an adjustment, now available at 32 euros, compared to the current rate of 16.90 euros. These modifications are scheduled to take effect from July 20 to September 8, encompassing the entire duration of both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Valerie Pecresse, the head of the Paris region’s transport authority, has provided assurance that these substantial price increments will not impact the annual and monthly travel passes designed for residents. Pecresse underscored the commitment to shield residents from shouldering the additional financial burden attributed to the Olympic Games, estimated at a staggering 200 million euros.

To accommodate the surge in tourist numbers, a specially crafted flat-rate pass will be made available at 16 euros per day or 70 euros per week during the Games. This pass will encompass travel within Paris and its surrounding region, including transportation to and from Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports.

Pecresse recommended that Parisian residents stock up on metro tickets prior to July to circumvent the impending surcharge. With an expected influx of 10 million visitors during the Olympics, the transport authority is striving to enhance the frequency and efficiency of transport services to meet the heightened demand.
