Paris is set to dazzle the world with the 2024 Olympics, attracting millions of visitors and generating billions in economic benefits for the vibrant French capital.

Paris, celebrated as the world’s most powerful city destination, continues to demonstrate its resilience and appeal. According to accommodation data from WTTC Knowledge Partner, CoStar, hotel occupancy rates in the French capital surpassed 2019 levels in the first half of 2023 for over half of the hotel classes. This surge highlights Paris’s enduring allure and its capacity to attract visitors from around the globe.

An independent study has revealed that the Paris 2024 Olympic Games are expected to generate between EUR 6.7 and 11.1 billion in net economic benefits for the Paris region, with a middle-ground scenario estimating an impact of EUR 8.9 billion.

With less than 50 days until the Paris Olympics, the influx of millions of international visitors offers immense opportunities for the host country and local businesses.

The 2020 Tokyo Summer Games, held in 2021, garnered a global audience of approximately 3.05 billion, a slight decline from the 3.2 billion viewers five years earlier.

According to the Paris Tourism Office, tourists visiting Paris during the Games, whether or not they have tickets, are expected to spend around EUR 2.6 billion (approximately 2.8 billion USD).

The number of international tourist arrivals in Paris’ hotels saw a significant increase in 2023 over the previous year, also surpassing pre-pandemic figures. In total, inbound arrivals in the French capital’s hotels reached nearly 10.3 million in 2023, the highest figure recorded during the period considered. The occupancy rate of hotels in Paris rose across all categories in 2023 compared to the previous year, with mid-range establishments reporting the highest occupancy at 82 percent.

In line with its commitment to delivering the “greenest games ever,” Paris 2024 aims to reduce carbon emissions by 55% to align with the Paris Agreement’s climate goals.

The 2024 Summer Olympics will mark the 100th anniversary of Paris hosting the Games in 1924. This milestone signifies the city’s third time hosting the Olympics, having first done so in 1900.
