Park City Municipal is once again launching the highly anticipated Ride On Winter Rewards Programme, a four-month initiative aimed at reducing carbon footprints and promoting eco-friendly travel options. The programme is scheduled to run from December 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026, and invites residents, visitors, and employees to participate in its sustainable travel initiative. The goal is clear: encourage more people to walk, bike, take public transport, carpool, vanpool or use park and ride lots rather than driving alone.

The programme aims to promote a culture of sustainable transportation by incentivising individuals to choose greener options during the winter months. Winter traffic can cause congestion and increase CO₂ emissions, highlighting the importance of this initiative. Park City’s ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental impact have made the city a shining example of how communities can collaborate to combat climate change.

How the Ride On Winter Rewards Program Works

Participants in the Ride On Winter Rewards Program are encouraged to track their sustainable trips. By logging these eco-friendly travel options, participants earn points that contribute to monthly raffles and cash prizes. Not only does this motivate individuals to adopt greener habits, but it also rewards them for their dedication to reducing their environmental impact.

The programme allows participants to log trips through a user-friendly platform where their journeys—whether by foot, bicycle, or public transit—are recorded and scored. More sustainable travel modes result in higher points. For instance, choosing a bike ride over a car journey can help participants accumulate points faster. This is designed to reflect the programme’s commitment to encouraging not only eco-friendly choices but also long-term sustainable habits.

At the end of the Winter Ride On Program, the top 10 participants will be awarded cash prizes of up to $450. Additionally, riders who log trips on three separate days each month will be automatically entered into a monthly raffle, where they can win a Mountainkind e-gift card and other exciting swag items.

Program Success from the Previous Year

The 2024-2025 Ride On Winter Rewards Program shattered all previous records, with participants logging 26,000 sustainable trips, travelling a total of 350,639 miles using alternative transportation methods. This not only represents a significant step toward achieving sustainability goals but also helped reduce 88.4 tonnes of CO₂ emissions—a substantial achievement for the city.

Furthermore, participants in the programme collectively saved $100,000, highlighting the financial benefits of opting for public transit, carpooling, and biking instead of driving. These statistics not only underscore the success of the initiative but also serve as a testament to the growing interest in alternative transportation solutions. In a year when the climate crisis has continued to dominate global conversations, such efforts are becoming increasingly important for cities that wish to take action.

A Community-Centric Approach to Sustainability

One of the unique aspects of Park City’s Ride On Winter Rewards Program is its focus on community involvement. By encouraging both residents and visitors to participate, the programme ensures that the benefits of sustainable travel extend beyond just local inhabitants. It promotes a culture of collective responsibility, where individuals are not only focused on reducing their own environmental impact but are also actively contributing to the greater good of the community.

Moreover, the program’s engagement with businesses and organizations in Park City further boosts its credibility and reach. Companies and employers in the area are encouraged to promote the initiative within their networks, offering employees incentives to participate. This collaborative effort between residents, businesses, and visitors ensures that sustainability becomes a shared goal across all sectors of the community.

A Step Toward Long-Term Sustainable Mobility

Park City’s Ride On Winter Rewards Program is more than just a temporary initiative; it is part of a broader, ongoing movement toward sustainable urban mobility. As the city continues to focus on alternative transportation, initiatives like this one are integral to its long-term plans. The programme represents the city’s commitment to creating a more sustainable, environmentally conscious transportation infrastructure for residents and visitors alike.

Incorporating eco-friendly travel options into everyday routines is a crucial step toward reducing the carbon footprint of the city and preserving its natural beauty. As more cities around the world look to curb congestion, pollution, and CO₂ emissions, Park City stands as a shining example of how communities can come together to address environmental issues through sustainable transportation solutions.

Looking Ahead: Park City’s Sustainability Journey

As Park City grows and evolves, programmes like Ride On Winter Rewards will play an increasingly important role in determining its future. The city’s vision for sustainable travel is consistent with larger objectives for a greener, cleaner, and more connected urban environment. Park City is laying the groundwork for a future in which transport options meet the needs of both residents and the environment.

With continued success, future editions of the programme are likely to include more rewards, participants, and even more sustainable travel options. Park City’s efforts demonstrate the transformative power of community-led sustainability initiatives, demonstrating that even small changes, when implemented on a large scale, can have far-reaching consequences for both the environment and local economies.
