Passenger traffic at Fraport Greece airports has demonstrated balanced growth, supported by strong domestic demand and steady inflows from key international markets like the UK, Germany, and Turkey. This growth reflects the continued recovery of the Greek tourism sector, bolstered by both local travel preferences and consistent international arrivals, which contribute significantly to the airports’ overall performance.

Passenger activity across the 14 regional airports operated by Fraport Greece recorded a strong and steady expansion in November 2025, reinforcing the resilience of air travel demand beyond the traditional summer peak. According to preliminary operational data, total passenger traffic for the month reached 953,054 travelers, marking an increase of 8.8 percent compared with November 2024, when 876,323 passengers passed through these airports. The figures underline that travel demand remains solid even during the quieter shoulder and winter periods.

Domestic air travel continued to form the backbone of overall traffic. In November, 543,760 passengers traveled on domestic routes, reflecting an annual increase of 8.1 percent. International travel also showed notable momentum, with 409,294 passengers arriving from or departing to overseas destinations, representing a 9.6 percent rise compared with the same month last year. The upward trend was further reflected in aircraft movements, as total flights across the network climbed to 9,126, up from 8,340 in November 2024, translating into a growth rate of 9.4 percent.

These results highlight the sustained dynamism of Greece’s regional aviation network, even during months traditionally characterized by reduced volumes. Both domestic and international segments contributed to the overall increase, signaling balanced growth rather than reliance on a single market.

Market composition and international demand

Domestic travel remained the largest contributor to passenger volumes, accounting for more than half of total traffic in November. Within international markets, Germany once again emerged as the leading source country, generating 144,289 passengers during the month. This strong performance confirms Germany’s ongoing importance as a core market for Greece’s regional airports throughout the year.

Other international markets also continued to provide consistent traffic flows. The United Kingdom followed with 49,972 passengers, while Cyprus recorded 36,693 passengers. Italy contributed 23,668 passengers, Turkey accounted for 15,653 passengers, and Austria generated 15,415 passengers. Collectively, these figures demonstrate that key European markets continue to support connectivity to Greece outside the high summer season, maintaining year-round links and contributing to traffic stability.

Airport-level performance

At the individual airport level, Thessaloniki remained the busiest hub within the network. In November, the airport handled 528,995 passengers, reflecting an 8.7 percent increase compared with the same month last year. Its strong performance played a central role in driving overall growth across the network.

Rhodes followed with 123,549 passengers, representing a year-on-year increase of 6.7 percent. Chania delivered one of the most notable results among larger regional airports, recording 87,450 passengers and achieving growth of 12.2 percent. These outcomes underline the continued strength of demand at airports that combine year-round operations with seasonal tourism activity.

Several smaller airports posted particularly strong growth rates. Samos recorded 13,463 passengers in November, compared with just 4,456 passengers a year earlier, resulting in a sharp increase of more than 200 percent. Corfu also delivered a robust performance, handling 35,783 passengers and posting a 25.5 percent increase compared with November 2024.

In contrast, Santorini and Mykonos registered declines in passenger traffic, falling by 9.9 percent and 11.5 percent respectively. These reductions are consistent with seasonal travel patterns, as both destinations rely heavily on summer demand and typically experience lower volumes during the winter months.

Island cluster results

A group of island airports including Rhodes, Kos, Mykonos, Santorini, Samos, Mytilene and Skiathos recorded a combined total of 280,088 passengers in November 2025. This represents an increase of 5.7 percent compared with November 2024, when passenger numbers stood at 264,911.

Within this cluster, international traffic rose sharply by 12.8 percent, reflecting continued overseas interest in selected destinations even during the off-season. Domestic traffic increased by 3.8 percent, indicating stable internal demand and ongoing connectivity between mainland Greece and island destinations.

Overall, Cluster A airports recorded the strongest growth during the month, driven largely by higher volumes at major hubs and select regional gateways.

Performance for the January to November period

Looking at the broader time frame, passenger traffic across the 14 regional airports reached 36.23 million travelers during the January to November 2025 period. This represents a 2.9 percent increase compared with the same period in 2024, when total traffic reached 35.22 million passengers.

By cluster, Cluster A airports handled 20.43 million passengers over the eleven-month period, achieving growth of 6 percent. Cluster B airports recorded 15.81 million passengers, reflecting a marginal decline of 0.9 percent, largely due to the seasonal nature of certain destinations.

At the airport level, Thessaloniki ranked first with 7.40 million passengers, representing an 8 percent increase year on year. Rhodes followed with 7.02 million passengers, up 2.4 percent. Kos recorded 3.39 million passengers, reflecting growth of 4.4 percent. Santorini handled 3.18 million passengers, though this represented a decline of 16.1 percent. Mykonos recorded 1.74 million passengers, down 1.9 percent, while Samos reached 431,000 passengers, showing a modest increase of 1 percent.

Passenger traffic at Fraport Greece airports has seen balanced growth, driven by strong domestic demand and steady inflows from the UK, Germany, and Turkey, reflecting a robust recovery in Greek tourism.

The January to November figures indicate that 2025 is shaping up as a year of moderate overall growth compared with 2024. Airports with more diversified, year-round demand are outperforming purely seasonal destinations, which continue to experience fluctuations outside the summer months. November’s results confirm that passenger traffic across Fraport Greece’s regional airports remains resilient, with steady growth trends supporting a positive outlook as the year approaches its close.
