From April 22 onwards, Pegasus Airlines is set to initiate a bi-weekly air service connecting Maastricht Aachen Airport to the bustling city of Antalya, Turkey. This new route, featuring flights every Monday and Thursday throughout the summer season, marks a significant milestone in the airline’s expansion and is poised to significantly impact tourism between these destinations. Antalya, a sought-after resort location, had previously enjoyed daily connections through Corendon during the summer of 2019, highlighting its popularity among travelers from Maastricht Aachen Airport.

Pegasus Airlines, distinguished by its modern and youthful fleet, has been recognized internationally, securing two awards for possessing one of the youngest fleets globally, ranking fourth. The airline is on a trajectory towards modernization, with plans to exclusively incorporate Airbus NEO models from 2025. These aircraft are celebrated for being at the forefront of aviation technology, offering the quietest, cleanest, and most efficient performances in their category.

Dean Boljuncic, the Head of Commercial Development at Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA), has expressed enthusiasm over the partnership with Pegasus Airlines. This collaboration is viewed not just as a short-term arrangement but as the foundation for a long-standing relationship aimed at diversifying the airport’s flight destinations. Pegasus Airlines’ commitment to using quiet and fuel-efficient aircraft resonates with MAA’s mission towards sustainability and environmental stewardship, showcasing a shared vision between the two entities.

The introduction of Pegasus Airlines as the second operator to connect Maastricht Aachen Airport with Antalya signifies a broadening of travel choices for passengers. Unlike Corendon, which primarily targets package holiday seekers, Pegasus Airlines focuses on catering to individuals purchasing standalone flight tickets. This diversification in service offerings is expected to attract a wider audience of travelers, potentially leading to an increase in tourist flow to Antalya from Maastricht and vice versa.

The launch of this new route is anticipated to not only provide a boon to tourism but also to fortify the position of Maastricht Aachen Airport as a key player in the international aviation community, fostering economic growth and promoting cross-cultural exchanges between the Netherlands and Turkey.
