Peterborough’s Good Friday Walk of Witness cancelled amid COVID restrictions

Peterborough’s Walk of Witness has been cancelled for a second year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event which takes place on Good Friday, welcomes congregations from churches across the city who gathering at the Stanley recreation Ground before the procession takes place all the way through the city centre to Cathedral Square.


Several people carry a large wooden cross at the front of the procession to remember the journey of Christ. The procession is followed by a large open air service in Cathedral Square that takes place in the presence of hundreds of people every year. The event is organised by Churches Together who informed that the event could not go forward this year.


A spokesperson informed that in light of the current COVID restrictions and the R number higher in Peterborough, no gathering and the Walk of Witness from the churches in Peterborough will take place this year. However, the region is seeing a number of church services taking place over the weekend, all being held in a complete COVID secure way.
