Philadelphia joins Florida, Virginia, and New York as JetBlue strengthens its San Juan hub with five new nonstop routes, connecting Puerto Rico to key East Coast and Florida cities. The expansion, launching in spring 2026, reflects growing demand for travel between the island and mainland U.S., enhances year-round connectivity, and reinforces JetBlue’s long-standing commitment to supporting Puerto Rico’s communities, tourism, and economic growth.

JetBlue, Puerto Rico’s leading airline, has announced a significant expansion of its San Juan (SJU) operations with the introduction of five new nonstop routes to Philadelphia (PHL), Jacksonville, Florida (JAX), Norfolk, Virginia (ORF), Richmond, Virginia (RIC), and Buffalo, New York (BUF). Scheduled to commence in spring 2026, these year-round services are designed to enhance connectivity between Puerto Rico and key East Coast and Florida markets, reaffirming JetBlue’s 23-year commitment to the island and its communities.

With this expansion, JetBlue solidifies its position as the largest carrier operating between Puerto Rico and the mainland United States. The airline currently provides service from San Juan, Aguadilla, and Ponce, offering more seats and destinations than any other airline on the island. Following the launch of these new routes, JetBlue will operate flights to 22 nonstop destinations from San Juan alone, with an average of more than 40 daily departures anticipated by next spring.

Strategic Growth Across Puerto Rico

The new routes build on a period of substantial growth for JetBlue in Puerto Rico. Recently, the airline increased flights between San Juan and Fort Lauderdale (FLL), operating up to six daily departures during peak travel periods to accommodate strong demand. This expansion reflects both growing passenger interest and JetBlue’s broader strategy of enhancing air connectivity for Puerto Rico.

Investing in Puerto Rico Beyond Air Travel

Since beginning operations in San Juan in 2002, JetBlue has established deep connections with Puerto Rico’s cultural, economic, and social communities. Nearly 800 local crewmembers work across the island, supporting growing pilot and inflight crew bases and robust maintenance operations. Beyond air travel, JetBlue actively collaborates with local organizations, supports youth-focused initiatives, and promotes Puerto Rican talent, including partnerships with the Ricky Martin Foundation and special airline liveries showcasing local artists.

Coinciding with the announcement of these new routes, JetBlue and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) have renewed a Cooperative Marketing Agreement to strengthen air access and boost tourism demand. This partnership leverages marketing funds from PRTC to promote JetBlue’s expanding service, covering San Juan, Ponce, and Aguadilla connections to major East Coast and Florida cities. The joint campaigns will use digital media, targeted email marketing, and integrated destination branding to drive passenger growth while supporting long-term route sustainability.

These new services aim to provide both residents and visitors with greater travel flexibility while supporting Puerto Rico’s tourism economy and regional connectivity.

Looking Ahead

JetBlue’s expanded network from San Juan demonstrates a long-term commitment to Puerto Rico’s growth, connectivity, and cultural enrichment. By combining innovative flight options with active community engagement and partnerships, the airline continues to play a pivotal role in connecting Puerto Rico with the mainland U.S. and supporting sustainable tourism development across the island.

With increased daily departures, additional destinations, and strong community ties, JetBlue is poised to maintain its leadership role in Puerto Rico while ensuring travelers have convenient and reliable access to both business and leisure destinations.
