Philippine Airlines (PAL) has made a significant move to expand its international footprint by announcing the initiation of direct flights connecting Manila with Seattle in the United States, starting on October 2. This announcement was made during a press conference by PAL’s president, Stanley Ng, who highlighted Seattle as the chosen destination for this new long-haul service, indicating a strategic expansion into both existing and new markets, including potential routes in Asia and possibly Europe.

The introduction of this service is seen as an opportunity for the Philippines to showcase its islands’ allure to a broader spectrum of travelers, encompassing both tourists and business professionals. Ng also mentioned the challenges of opening new routes, emphasizing the importance of reciprocal support from destination countries and backing from the government to realize such initiatives.Seattle becomes the sixth U.S. destination in PAL’s portfolio, joining the likes of Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Honolulu, and Guam, marking a significant expansion in the airline’s U.S. operations. The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft has been designated for this route, with the service set to run three times a week — on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays — underscoring PAL’s commitment to providing accessible and efficient travel options between the two cities.Additionally, Ng disclosed plans to rejuvenate the Cebu-Osaka and Manila-Sapporo routes within the same year, further enhancing the airline’s route network and providing more travel options to its passengers. Despite the forthcoming opening of a new airport in Bulacan, Manila will continue to serve as PAL’s primary hub, ensuring the capital remains a central point for the airline’s operations. This expansion by Philippine Airlines into the Seattle market is poised to have a profound impact on global travel, fostering stronger cultural and economic ties between the Philippines and the United States. It not only opens up new avenues for tourism and business exchanges but also enhances connectivity and accessibility for travelers seeking to explore the diverse offerings of both nations.
