The ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2024, held from January 24 to 26 in Vientiane, Laos, concluded with significant achievements for the Philippines, marking a successful showcase of its tourism potential. The Philippine delegation, led by the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines, secured over 400 million Philippine pesos in negotiated sales leads, demonstrating the international interest in the country’s diverse tourism offerings.

Represented by 15 local exhibitors including airlines, hotels, resorts, tour operators, destination management companies, and a convention center, the Philippines engaged with 79 international buyers. This interaction not only strengthened existing partnerships but also fostered new collaborations, signaling a promising year ahead for Philippine tourism.

The Philippine pavilion featured the country’s award-winning destinations like Intramuros, Palawan, and Cebu, and celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the T’boli people through traditional t’nalak weave patterns. Attendees were also treated to Antipolo, Rizal’s famed Kaulayaw Coffee, enhancing the cultural showcase.

A special function hosted by TPB and DOT at the Landmark Mekong Riverside Hotel introduced attendees to Philippine cuisine and culture, and announced the Philippines’ hosting of significant UN Tourism Commission events in Cebu. The event, enriched with Filipino culinary flavors by Chef Don Baldosano and cultural performances, highlighted the Philippines’ rich cultural and gastronomical heritage.

The Philippines also shone at the ASEAN Tourism Awards, securing prestigious recognitions for excellence in tourism. Properties and cities were lauded for their contributions to sustainable tourism, clean tourist cities, green hotels, and outstanding MICE venues, underscoring the country’s commitment to high standards in tourism.

This successful participation at ATF 2024 is set to propel the Philippines further as a leading tourist destination in the ASEAN region, leveraging the garnered momentum to attract more international tourists and investors. The TPB and DOT’s efforts have not only showcased the Philippines’ tourism excellence but also paved the way for future growth and collaboration within the ASEAN tourism landscape.
