Pokhara all prepared to host 13th South Asian Games (SAG)

Tourism entrepreneurs of Pokhara including common folks are quite thrilled about the forthcoming 13th South Asian Games (SAG) as Pokhara is one among the venues where eight games will be hosted.

 

Pokhara for the first time will be hosting any sport event of international repute and which has elated the locals, the tourism officials and tourism entrepreneurs alike.

 

Out of 26 sports that will be showcased in the 10-day event, Pokhara will be one of the venues for games like women cricket, football, beach volleyball, triathlon, badminton, weight lifting, handball, and archery.

 

The country’s popular tourist destination is all set to arrange as many as 840 guests-650 players and 190 officials- from the SAARC-member countries like Nepal, as per the Technical Committee Secretary, Balaram Lama.

 

Former President of Tourism Council, Som Thapa is considering the impending mega sports event as a major opportunity to endorse and boost up MICE (meeting, incentive, conference, and exhibitions) tourism in the city which is second after Kathmandu in attracting the largest number of international tourists.

 

Besides, the additional number of technical delegates from diferent countries, tournament directors, referees, judges, national referee and technical assistants from several countries will arrive at Pokhara as well to conduct the sports event.

 

“Pokhara is early waiting for the guests of imminent 13th SAG,” said Thapa, while expressing his confidence that the event would establish Pokhara as a potential place for sports tourism.

 

Likewise, Pokhara Tourism Council Chairperson, Chiranjivi Pokharel, saw that the 13th SAG would help in marketing the tourism of Pokhara at the international level as several players, officials, foreign sports lovers and media persons will be pouring into the place to watch the event in the place of ‘City of Lakes’ fame.

 

He considered that foreign guest arrival would help in promoting various tourism destinations of Pokhara.

 

The Western Regional Sports Development Committee Office Chief, Laxmannath Yogi said that all the 13th SAG related preparations, particularly the construction of physical infrastructures, were in the final phase.
