Prayagraj Authorities Close Sangam Railway Station Amid Maha Kumbh Overflow

Authorities in Prayagraj have announced the temporary closure of Sangam railway station from 1:30 PM on February 9 to midnight on February 14. This measure is part of efforts to manage the massive influx of devotees attending the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela.

The Prayagraj District Administration issued the directive to prevent overcrowding and ensure effective crowd management.

While Sangam station remains closed, train operations continue seamlessly across eight other stations in the Maha Kumbh area, including Prayagraj Chheoki, Naini, Prayagraj Junction, Subedarganj, Prayag, Phaphamau, Prayagraj Rambagh, and Jhusi. Special arrangements have been made to accommodate the surge in pilgrims traveling to the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers.

On Sunday, over 12.5 lakh pilgrims were facilitated, with a record 330 trains departing from the Prayagraj Mahakumbh area stations. As of today, 130 trains have already departed from these stations, ensuring smooth operations amid the heavy rush of devotees.

Traffic Snarls in Madhya Pradesh Due to Maha Kumbh Pilgrimage

Heavy traffic congestion has been reported in parts of Madhya Pradesh as vehicles heading toward Prayagraj face restrictions to avoid overcrowding. Since Friday night, movement of vehicles has been regulated, with clearance required from Uttar Pradesh officials before they are allowed to proceed.

Several vehicles, particularly those from Maharashtra and southern states, have been stranded in districts such as Katni, Maihar, and Rewa. Traffic police have established checkpoints at various locations, including Chakghat, permitting movement only when congestion subsides. Stranded travelers have reported delays but noted that food arrangements were satisfactory during the wait.

President Murmu Joins Maha Kumbh Devotees

President Droupadi Murmu visited Prayagraj during the Maha Kumbh Mela and took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam on Monday.

The President was welcomed by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. During her visit, she fed migratory birds at the Sangam and offered prayers, joining the millions of pilgrims in this sacred event.
