The construction of the Puri-Konark rail line is moving forward as Indian Railways takes its coastal connectivity project in Odisha forward. The new rail line of 32 kilometres will connect the Jagannath Temple at Puri and the world-renowned UNESCO Konark Sun Temple directly. For the 2026–27 financial year, the Ministry of Railways has allocated Rs 138.38 crore to support land acquisition, preliminary construction, and project management. Notifications under the Railway (Amendment) Act, 2008 have already been issued for villages in Puri and Gop tehsils, ensuring legal compliance and smooth progression of the project.
