Qantas, Australia,

Qantas Group welcomes its first Airbus A220, marking a milestone in fleet modernization and sustainability. The fuel-efficient A220 enhances passenger experience and operational efficiency, reflecting Qantas’s commitment to eco-friendly and advanced air travel.

This new aircraft boasts a distinct exterior design, inspired by indigenous Australian art, and is slated to leave the Airbus production facility in Mirabel shortly. Its journey to Sydney will include layovers in Vancouver, Honolulu, and Nadi.

The A220 is set to progressively replace QantasLink’s current 717 fleet. Capable of covering double the distance of its predecessors, it can effortlessly link any two locations within Australia without stopping. Additionally, it offers an impressive 25% decrease in both fuel use and carbon output compared to older aircraft models.

Notably, the A220 is renowned for having the largest cabin, seats, and windows in its category, thereby ensuring enhanced passenger comfort. Qantas has configured its A220s to accommodate 137 passengers, with a two-class arrangement featuring 10 business and 127 economy seats.

Tailored for the 100-150 seat market, the A220 represents the pinnacle of modernity in its segment. Equipped with advanced Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engines, it has a remarkable range of up to 3,450 nautical miles or 6,390 kilometers in a single flight.

In line with Airbus’ commitment to sustainability, the A220 is compatible with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and by 2030, Airbus intends to enable its fleet to operate entirely on SAF.

Airbus has seen nearly 850 orders for the A220 from about 30 clients, with over 300 already in service around the globe.
