The Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD) has recently acknowledged the sustainability achievements of Qatar Airways Group’s Fuwairit Kite Beach (FKB) and Ras Abrouq hotels. These recognitions are based on the meticulous adherence to the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS), overseen by GORD, a prominent Research, Development, and Innovation entity.

Fuwairit Kite Beach, situated in the northern region of Qatar and renowned for kite sports, has been granted a 3 Stars rating under the GSAS Design & Build certification and a Class B rating under the GSAS Construction Management certification. This underscores Qatar Airways Group’s unwavering dedication to environmental preservation.

Ras Abrouq, an oasis in the desert, has achieved an impressive 4 Stars rating under GSAS Design & Build certification and a Class B rating under GSAS Construction Management certification. The sustainable practices employed at this upcoming resort align with Qatar Airways Group’s overarching goal of contributing to a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.

Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, the Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways Group, expressed pride in the company’s support for sustainability and environmental preservation efforts. He emphasized their commitment to these principles as reflected in the construction and design of Fuwairit Kite Beach and the upcoming Ras Abrouq resort. Al-Meer reiterated their dedication to collaborating with GORD to provide sustainable hospitality offerings for the national tourism industry, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.

Dr. Yousef Alhorr, the Founding Chairman of GORD, highlighted the global impact of tourism and hospitality projects in shaping perceptions and promoting sustainability. He commended Fuwairit Kite Beach and Ras Abrouq as exemplary projects that embody ecologically responsible tourism, aligning seamlessly with Qatar’s unequivocal commitment to sustainability across all sectors, as outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030.

Qatar Airways continues to lead in sustainable business operations, being the first airline in the Middle East to achieve certification to the highest level of IATA’s Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) program. This certification is based on internationally recognized environmental management system principles, such as ISO 14001.
