The Taiwan Lantern Festival has made a triumphant return to Tainan after 16 years, coinciding with the city’s 400th anniversary. This renowned event, famous for its mesmerizing paper lanterns, is back in grand style.
In honor of the Year of the Dragon in 2024, a symbol deeply significant in Chinese culture, numerous lanterns at the festival beautifully portray this mythical creature. The festival’s main attractions are strategically located at Anping Recreational Wharf and in close proximity to Tainan’s High-Speed Rail station. These areas have been transformed into enchanting displays of light, attracting over 7 million visitors since the festival commenced on February 24, highlighting its widespread popularity.
To ensure convenient access to these mesmerizing sites, the Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) has arranged buses from the HSR station, promoting the use of public transportation for sustainability and attendee comfort. Moreover, ample parking facilities are available for those traveling by car.
In a bid to showcase the festival on an international platform, TTA has extended invitations to three Canadian content creators to visit Taiwan, each offering a distinct perspective on travel. Isabelle (@Allons.Y), known for her focus on scenic destinations; Ryan (@EatFamous), with a penchant for delectable cuisines; and Sahil (@TravelMowgly), an explorer of breathtaking landscapes, have been chosen to capture the festival’s essence through their diverse lenses. This collaborative effort underscores Taiwan’s commitment to sharing its rich heritage and beauty with a global audience, reaffirming its position as “The Heart of Asia.”
The promotion of Taiwan in North America will continue with TTA’s participation in the Bay Area Travel and Adventure Show on March 16-17, 2024, at the Santa Clara Convention Center.
From February 24 to March 10, international visitors to the 2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival will receive complimentary welcome gifts, including a zodiac dragon mini lantern, a limited edition OhBear gift, and a ticket to the Lantern Festival’s mesmerizing sound and light show.
