In response to the increased number of devotees and holidaymakers, the special trains will run from December 2 to December 9 on the Rameswaram to Tirupati route, and from December 3 to December 10 on the Tirupati to Rameswaram return route. This initiative comes as Southern Railway anticipates a sharp rise in passenger numbers, with devotees traveling to both Tirupati and Rameswaram, two of the most significant pilgrimage destinations in southern India.
The special service from Rameswaram to Tirupati (Train No. 06080) will begin its run on December 2, departing Rameswaram at 4:30 PM and arriving at Tirupati at 10:10 AM the following morning. For the return journey, the Tirupati to Rameswaram special train (Train No. 06079) will commence operations on December 3, leaving Tirupati at 11:55 AM and reaching Rameswaram at 4:45 AM the next day.
These train services will run only for the specified dates, providing flexibility for both pilgrims and tourists to plan their journeys efficiently. The timing of these services is designed to ensure that passengers can reach their destinations at convenient hours, especially those who are traveling to participate in temple rituals or family gatherings during the festive period.
To meet the expected demand, both special trains will be equipped with 18 coaches, an increase from the typical number used on regular services. This additional capacity will help alleviate the common problem of overcrowded trains, offering a more comfortable experience for travelers during one of the busiest times of the year.

The extra coaches are intended to accommodate a higher number of passengers, including families and large groups, as well as individuals traveling alone. This added convenience comes as Southern Railway anticipates a significant influx of travelers not only from neighboring regions but also from other parts of India, as people flock to Tirupati for its famous temple and Rameswaram for its sacred landmarks.
The special trains will follow the same route in both directions, making stops at a number of significant stations across southern Tamil Nadu and parts of Andhra Pradesh. These stations include Mandapam, Ramanathapuram, Paramakudi, Madurai, Kodaikanal Road, Dindigul, Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Papanasam, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Sirkazhi, Chidambaram, Cuddalore Port, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Arani Road, Vellore Cantonment, Katpadi, and Pakala.
These well-placed stops are designed to facilitate convenient boarding and alighting for passengers traveling to or from these towns and cities. By connecting key destinations along the route, the special services help to streamline the journey for passengers, minimizing the need for long-distance road travel. Whether for pilgrimage or tourism, these stops ensure that passengers can access the train service from locations close to their homes or destinations.
As is typical during high-demand periods, advance reservations are highly recommended for these special trains. With the festive rush and large numbers of pilgrims visiting both Tirupati and Rameswaram, securing tickets early is essential to guarantee a seat. The Southern Railway has emphasized the importance of booking in advance to avoid disappointment, as the special trains are expected to fill up quickly.
Passengers are also encouraged to familiarize themselves with the travel guidelines issued by the railway authorities. These guidelines include following proper health and safety measures, carrying necessary identification, and adhering to all railway regulations to ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience. Given the high volume of passengers, it is important that travelers follow these instructions to prevent overcrowding and to maintain public safety.
