Reduced flights restrict air tourism

Shortage of beds in hotels and lesser number of flight services are restricting the expansion of air visitor numbers. This has been issued by the Bermuda Tourism Authority as a caution word.


The BTA Chairman, Wayne Caines, utilized the annual report of the organization to say that as the situation in general was getting better after the pandemic situation, the businesses related to tourism was still in rough waters.


On Friday, introducing the BTA document to the House of Assembly, the Minister of Tourism, Vance Campbell, informed the MPs that for the sector, things were getting better. He also added that the report cautions that lesser number of airlift and hotel beds will restrict expansion in air visitors in 2023.


Mr. Caines requested fast development in terms of the delayed planned refurbishment of the hotel complex of Fairmont Southampton.

He also stated that as there has definitely been fervent discussion about the re-development of the Fairmont Southampton, with the project, they must find a way to move ahead and make sure online their largest hotel is brought back as soon as possible.


The increase in beds will in turn help to make sure extra flights from the prime US hubs.


The recent data in terms of tourism arrival is the evidence of the fact that they are heading in the right direction.
