Renovated Louisbourg Lighthouse to Be Unveiled: PS Kelloway to Attend

Published on September 11, 2024

Louisbourg

The historic Louisbourg Lighthouse in Nova Scotia is set to be commemorated in a special ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating its recent refurbishment. Mike Kelloway, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard, and Member of Parliament for Cape Breton—Canso, will lead the ceremony to mark this significant event in Louisbourg’s history.

The Louisbourg Lighthouse, a vital landmark and a beacon of Nova Scotia’s maritime heritage, has undergone extensive restoration as part of its centennial celebrations. The ceremony will honor its role in guiding ships along the rugged Atlantic coastline for 100 years. The announcement will be made on behalf of the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard.

This refurbishment project is part of the broader commitment to preserve Canada’s historic sites and promote sustainable tourism in the region. Parks Canada has been instrumental in ensuring the lighthouse continues to shine brightly, both as a functional navigational aid and as a symbol of Nova Scotia’s rich maritime legacy.
