Dan Schneiderman, the eclipse partnerships coordinator at the Rochester Museum & Science Center, revealed that the upcoming three-day eclipse-themed festival, “ROC the Eclipse,” is the result of years of meticulous planning and community collaboration. The festival is designed to offer unique, immersive, hands-on experiences, celebrating a significant celestial event that places Rochester in the spotlight. On April 8, 2024, Rochester will find itself in the enviable position of being directly in the path of totality for the Great North American Solar Eclipse, offering an unparalleled viewing experience.

The festival is scheduled to take place from April 6 to April 8, 2024, utilizing the entirety of the museum’s East Avenue campus to accommodate a range of activities and displays. Admission ranges from $18 to $20 daily, with a special three-day pass available for $50, although museum members can attend for free with prior registration.

In response to the anticipated high demand, RMSC spokeswoman Lyndsay Compitello has urged potential attendees to secure their tickets without delay, emphasizing the limited availability and the first-come, first-served policy in effect.

The event will feature notable speakers each day, such as astronomer Dr. Phil Plait and geologist Cate Larsen, alongside setups for safe solar viewing and activities led by various community groups and organizations. Highlighting the festival will be a performance by country musician Dylan Marlowe and a selection of food trucks offering diverse culinary options throughout the event.

An exclusive after-dark celebration for adults is also planned, with tickets priced between $40 and $45. This evening event will include unique activities like a silent disco within the planetarium, alongside a cash bar and food options.

To address the challenge of accommodating thousands of attendees, the Rochester Museum & Science Center has coordinated with First Student for transportation services, ensuring smooth access to the museum from various downtown locations, with provisions for handicapped-accessible parking and shuttle services. This comprehensive approach underlines the museum’s commitment to providing an accessible, enriching, and unforgettable festival experience centered around the eclipse, fostering a deeper appreciation for science and community engagement.
